Good Golfing Joke

Moses and Jesus were in a threesome playing golf one day. Moses pulled up to the tee and drove a long one. The ball landed on the fairway, but rolled directly towards a water hazard. Quickly Moses raised his club, the water parted and it rolled to the other side, safe and sound.

Next, Jesus strolled up to the tee and hit a nice long one directly toward the same water hazard. It landed right in the center of the pond and kind of hovered over the water. Jesus casually walked out on the pond and chipped the ball onto the green.

The third guy got up and sort of randomly whacked the ball. It headed out over the fence and into oncoming traffic on a nearby street. It bounced off a truck and hit a nearby tree. From there, it bounced onto the roof of a shack close by and rolled down into the gutter, down the rainspout, out onto the fairway and straight toward the aforementioned pond. On the way to the pond, the ball hit a little stone and bounced out over the water onto a lily pad, where it rested quietly. Suddenly a very large bullfrog jumped up on a lily pad and snatched the ball into his mouth. Just then, an eagle swooped down and grabbed the frog and flew away. As they passed over the green, the frog squealed with fright and dropped the ball, which bounced right into the cup for a hole- in-one. Moses turned to Jesus and said, "I hate playing with your Dad!"

I miss my friends!!!

Krissy and Trey - I'm so glad to hear Miss Kylie is out of the hospital and better!!

Just wanted to send a Happy Daylight Saving's Time message. Although, I'm still confused, is this the start or the end of daylight saving's time?? Either way, I love having the sunshine last longer, and SPRING IS COMING SOON!!

Hope you all had a great weekend and can't wait to see you all on Wednesday :)

God bless you all as you start the week.

Prayer Requests

Hey guys- Hope all is well with each one of you.

Couple of updates that need immediate prayers:

Kylie may be admitted to the hospital this afternoon. She has not been doing to well. Unfortunately, she has had diarrhea and possibly a viral infection. Krissy took her to the doctor this morning for blood work and she is so dehydrated that they had a hard time locating her veins. So please prayer for Kylie and Krissy and Trey. That she will be healed and feeling better. Pray for strength to get through this and wisdom for the doctors. I will keep you updated as to what is going on with them as the day progresses.

Elise's grandmother, Becky, also needs prayers. She has a staff infection that is basically the result of a hip replacement. Apparently, the only way to save her leg and her life (as staff infections are pretty dangerous) is to redo the hip replacement. Becky is 80 years old, and obviously the family is scared on whether or not she will survive the surgery- so please pray for a special hedge of protection around her, for wisdom for the doctors, and comfort that all will be ok. Also, pray for Elise's mom as she travels to Arizona.

Lots of love to all of you-

Joanne

Prayers for the DeArmond Family

Hey all,

I need prayers for healing in our feeling...

Will is still sick with a cold but now Olivia is sick as well. Olivia has a cold/ear infection and the beginnings of a flu like virus. We went to the doctor yesterday and was sent to Children's Mercy South to x ray her tummy because of her spitting up violently and extra gas...the doctor wants us to keep a close eye on her so she doesn't get dehydrated. So prayers that she stays hydrated and that I can get some kiddos well. Also prayers for sanity during this crazy time.

Prayer for Polly

Friends, I received this email today from a friend of mine who is a part-time attorney. SHe is a member of our church and is currently working with the KC, MO police department trying to get the state to change their policy about making all KC, MO cops/families live within the KC, MO city limits. This has been a very stressful time for her as she has been working 70-80 hour weeks, feeling like she's neglecting her children (she normally works two 1/2 days on Tues. pm and Thurs. am). She knows that God has given this burden for a reason, she just needs prayer for Him to equip her with the words that need to be said in order to change the current state law. She has two very important meetings this week on Tues. and Thurs and asks/needs prayer, these are her exact "needs."

1) That God will give me the words and the wisdom to accomplish the task at hand.

2) That God will soften the hearts of the board members and that they will do what is right and not allow politics to cloud their judgment.

3) That God will calm my nerves so I can deliver the message in a real, understandable manner.

4) That I will be equipped with the answers to their questions.

5) That my kids will be patient and not feel neglected as I devote my time to this effort.

The meetings scheduled so far are tomorrow at 1:00, and Thursday at 2:00.

Thank you all for your friendship and for being the kind of friends that I can count on to pray.

Her name is Polly and I know she would appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks, Friends! Ashley :)
(ps - her husband is a KC, MO policeman... her son is almost 5 and, for very good reason, they do not want him to be in the public schools in this district) :)

Prayer requests, please!

Hi friends!

60 kiddos later, I'm going to take the liberty to say I am so GREATFUL I don't have to do that everynight!

Hey, could you guys please add these prayer requests to your list??

Continued prayer for my gpa, I spoke with him just yesterday and he sound MUCH better, so that's good! Just continue prayer that he makes the most of what he has and has decent quality of life.

Also, I am taking Oliver to Children's Mercy's urology department this Friday for a consultation. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it but the pediatrician who did his circumcision in the hospital did a "botch" job and we need to have it re-done. I'm very terrified to find out what their procedure is as I"m pretty sure they'll have to put Oliver under anesthesia to do it, which TERRIFIES me. So, please pray for God's provision and also, I am going to try and make sure that the HORRIBLE pediatrician who messed this up pays for the second one, but I do not want to get legal matters involved if not needed. ...phew, long story. I'm a little nervous about this...

Lastly, please put my aunt Joyce (great aunt) in your prayers. She has been quite ill for some time now and has actually been in the hospital since January with complications from mis-managed diabetes. She needs a kidney transplant but she is in very bad health they are having to do other things, but she's still in the hospital, just found out they are going to have to amputate her foot, she was allergic to the heparin drip and had serverely low platelets, etc. I really can't believe I haven't brought her up before and remember everytime I get home after the fact. So please pray for her. She's the one who always organizes family functions, never forgets a soul, and although they have absolutely no money, she gets everyone gifts for every holiday and birthday... she's just a true testament to how God loves us and how He wants us to love others.

Long one tonight, sorry!
Missed everybody :(
peace, love, and bedtime.

Oh, also, friends Nicole and Paul went into hospital yesterday to have 1st baby! (Still no word...)

Domi - Chris has 2nd interview (yay!) on Friday, pray that God will direct him and guide him in making smart decision if job is offered. Domi has been feeling ill, possible asthma exacerbation, pray this is the case and for proper healing; Milla started crawling last week and saying "mama!"

Continued prayer for Joanne's brother and sister-in-law as they will find God's love and accept.

Dustin - prayer for safe travel back fromManhattan (and that God would forgive him for watching such a game...) I'M KIDDING! (kind of)

New Prayer Request

Hey Everyone,

Today I need prayer for a bad headache...It started on Monday and I was unable to sleep last night because if I moved in the night I woke up in pain. So prayers that with some over the counter meds I will be able to get rid of it and also that it is not an indicator that I will be having a seizure. I tend to get bad headaches before I have a bad seizure so I am praying that this is not one of those headaches. I just need some healing and peace of mind.

Thanks,

Liz

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope all are enjoying the blizzard-esque snow we have going on... again.

Kevin and Joanne, I'm so sorry Jake is still not feeling well. Sorry you missed out on your vacation on top of this. Glad to hear Jake's starting to feel better (after talking with Kevin at church today), I hope he continues to get better so you guys can get more sleep!

Joanne, I would love to come and play games with the kiddos and let them know that no matter what happens to them, Jesus loves each and every one of them, all the time. I will continue to pray that this is God's open door you're been looking for.

Hope all the other kiddos get healthy and well and all the adults get to enjoy their Valentine's Day!
Peace, love, and Valentine's wishes :)

New Day

Hey guys-
Glad life group went well this week. I was hoping to write you from sunny Key West, however Jake took a turn for the worst and we decided it was not ok to leave him. He seems to be doing well now...finally after 5 days he is taking a bottle. Seems like we have a lot of sick kids on our hands, so I'll be praying for a special hedge of protection around them.

Hope to see you guys soon! Oh yeah, I also wanted to get your feedback about something. As the women of the group know, I've really felt like God has been leading me to adopt of doing something with children. For the last several months I've been seeking volunteer opportunities with orphanages, only to never get a returned call. Well, I finally had someone respond for Niles Home for Children in KC, MO. I went in today, and sobbed (I don't know why I was so emotional)...but they are very hesitant to let people come in and volunteer until the know you....these particular children are ones that have had some physical and emotional distress in the foster care system. Absolutely heart breaking. Anyways, long story short, they asked if a group of us could come and volunteer and maybe do a game night on a Wed. night. I thought that if we have 4-6 of us who were interested in sharing God's love (that's my pull to you)...that we can do this while our spouse is at group.

Let me know if you are in!

I hope so, this way they can get to know me a little more...and then the more they see me and get to know me, the more interaction I can have with the kids! Obviously these children are very vulnerable and they take extra precaution- which I think is well warranted!

God Bless- Joanne

Hey all,

What a wonderful start to our work week on the way home from work I lost control of my car and hit the median and then spun around a few times and landed partly in the ditch. Luckily I didn't hit anybody or nobody hit me. The car is fine I am pretty sore but ok just shaken up. I just ask for prayers for the soreness to heal.

I hope all the kiddos get well soon and hope to see all on Wednesday night!

Krissy

Yikes!

Poor Jake! Glad you guys were able to get him, and get a diagnosis! It's always better (at least, for me) to get an actual diagnosis when I take my little guy in, so I know at least they will tell me how to make him better. Prayers are definitely up for him to get full recovery, and for the parents to get some rest and help him feel better!

Domi and Chris, glad you had a good weekend, sans the sick child. You know to give us a holler anytime :)

I have no idea who won the super bowl, or even who was in it, but I can tell you that our sermon really hit some strong points in how I "waste" time with my mindless prayers. It certainly brings a new light to the meaning of prayer listening to our preachers breaking down the Lord's prayer and explaining what each word/phrase is meant to stand for. I'm hoping to really take more time spent alone with God and our thoughts, not just me "rambling."

Peace, love, and the happy thoughts that Spring really is coming (someday)
Ashley :)

Correction- we WILL be having group this week

Hey guys-

Kevin spoke too soon! We will be having life group this week, however, the DeArmond's will be facilitating it. Even though kevin and I will not be able to attend, we would really like you guys to continue the momentum we've got going and meet.

If for some reason you cannot go, please let us know....as we'll need to let Amy Totta know in the nursery! Sounds like there are several things to pray for this week- so not meeting is NOT an option as we want to be in the Word especially when we need God!

Make it a great week! Lot's of blessings to each of you!

Jo

Thanks

I know we should call when we need something, but I appreciate the fact that some of you just called/texted us. It is hard to make that first move to reach out, so we appreciate you reaching out to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!

We had a nice weekend, but leaving the house this morning was really hard for me. I know that Chris and Milla will be fine, but I also know that we are going to have a tough road ahead.

Milla had a rough night too. She has a cough and snotty nose and was pretty darn restless.

Again, thank you!

Oh, What A Night

Hello All! I just wanted to let everyone know that Life Group this week is looking like it may need to be canceled. I hate to do this, but we had to take Jake to Children's Mercy Hospital last night and the Dr. (who was amazing) told us that he has Croup and an ear infection in both ears. So I would like a prayer request for our little guy, so he gets to feeling better. I hope everyone else is doing well. I will send an email if we do cancel for sure. Have a good week.

Thanks,
Kevin

Life's like a box of chocolates!!! :-)

Good Morning everyone.

Yes, things have been a little crazy around the Chancy household this week but hey, it is what it is.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support. It means so very much to me to be supported and loved by a wonderful wife, beautiful daughter and a life group full of friends that CARE. Thanks again for everything.

A verse I've been fond of for some time know is the following

1 Thes. 5: 16-18
Be joyful always, Pray continually; give thanks in ALL circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Thanks again
Chris

Prayers for Chris and family

Domi, Chris, and Milla,
Please trust in the Lord and know that He is leading you all somewhere. Please, please, please reach out if you need help, or just someone to talk to - I'm here!

Our prayers are definitely with you guys.
2 of my favorites for hard times are:

"It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure." – Psalm 18:32

"Do not be afraid or terrified because of them for the Lord you God goes with you, He will never leave you nor forsake you." Deut. 31:6

Call!

Return of Seizures

Hi again,

So I have learned my lesson, the minute I post that everything is getting better with my seizures...it gets worse again. Last night I had a couple seizures...most likely to do with the stress of dealing with a sick kid and not sleeping enough. So keep up the prayers for our family.

Thanks,

Liz

DeArmond Update

Hey everyone,

My seizures have eased up for now. Mark made sure I got extra rest last weekend. So for now I feel well rested, but we will see how I feel as the week progresses.

It seems that Olivia has a cold and it is causing her to spit up more than usual and not sleep very well. Will has a cold as well but it has not affected his appetite. So prayers that the kids can get to feeling better. I'd love to go an entire week where we are all well.

On a separate note I enjoyed the sermon on Sunday as well...I felt convicted about my relationship with God as Daddy as well. I had an idea to really delve into The Sermon on the Mount. If anyone has any ideas of a good study that would relate to that please let me know.

Prayer Request for Chris' co-worker

Jessica is Chris' co-worker and she is 5 months pregnant. On Saturday Jessica Karcz and her husband Tom were involved in a car accident. Jessica was air-lifted to Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Tom had minor injuries and was released from Salina Regional. Jessica is moving all her extremities. She sustained a fractured skull, a few broken ribs and a fractured left middle finger. The sonogram pictures of the baby show that he/she is ok. The OB has said, "Healthy Mom=Healthy Baby." The last baby heartbeat was 145/minute.....which was the first heartbeat that Jessica acknowledged hearing.

Jessica is resting comfortably and is becoming more alert by the hour.

It would be great if you could keep the Karcz family in your prayers!

Made me think

Hey All-

Hope you guys had a great weekend. We definitely did, although it went by lightning fast. Ashley and Cole- glad to hear that Oliver is ok- I was really concerned for the little guy! If you get a chance- I definitely think this sermon was a must see.

A couple of things that hit me personally (and this will make more sense when you see the sermon)...but I have to admit, I don't currently have the relationship with God to call him my daddy. This really struck a cord with me when I heard it. If he is supposed to be my rock, my shelter, and my stregnth- do I really give him my everything. If I did- then I think I would have no problem calling him my daddy...but I think that on some level- my relationship with Him is superficial- and that to me is the saddest thing. So, how can I draw closer to my Lord so I can get that daddy relationship. Well, I truly believe that I'm at a stand still- and I think most of our group is as well. I don't spend as much time in the Word these days as I should. If I were, I would be growing spiritually and emotionally to my Saviour- and that's what I'm missing.

I think this also ties into why our life group has been stagnant too. The reason those questions aren't coming to life for us is because we are not drinking the Word like we should. If we were, then we would have more meaningful conversation, but I digress.

The other thing that hit me in the sermon was not to pray like the pagans. I am guilty of just saying prayer just to say it...but not sure my heart is in it- especially for those prayer request that are a daily prayer request for me. Maybe that's why God hasn't answered those prayers- because I haven't prayed fervently for them....I've been lukewarm.

So, I guess the reason I'm writing this is not to make excuses but to be vulnerable to you guys and for you to hold me accountable. This week I'm going to start those daily devotionals that are in the pamphlet from church and see how it goes. Any one want to try this with me?

Oliver and 'Growing up Green...'

Good news! The rash was completely gone yesterday. So, we ditched our KU/KSU game watching plans in order to not expose anyone, and ended up it was all okay. Oh well, life of a parent, right? We missed church too, as they told us to keep him home for the next 24 hours, just in case. We need to watch online, I was really excited for the opening sermon of this new series.

He's had a couple spots pop up again this am, so I am wondering if it's just a part of this crazy virus he has? I of course, just finished reading "Growing up Green" as I really try to do things as natural as possible (depending on the situation of course :) ) And the book basically made me feel 100% guilty as a parent, especially after being told oliver has an ear infection and sinus infection; according to the book it's because of some crazy chemicals that are in my house... I do NOT recommend reading it!! It also made me even more paranoid as a parent looking around at all the chemicals in the environment and things that I have NO control over, so like I said, don't read it. (Had to get that off my chest, I feel better, thanks!)

Happy February!!!!

I'm trying to figure the comment part out

Dom, I have a blog, and other people can comment on it, and I can comment on theirs, but I, too, am having a hard time figuring out how to comment. I subscribed to the "blogline" thing, but I think that was a mistake... who knows what they're going to start emailing me :)

I'll play around and post what I find out.

Also, could you all please pray for Oliver? We took him in to see the doctor and he was diagnosed with another ear infection with possible sinus infection on top. This is his 4th ear infection, causing concern for the possible needs for ear tubes. Also, today he got this rash all over, I took him in as I wasn't sure if it was a drug reaction or not. Well, they think he may have chickenpox. He was scheduled for his varicella vaccine at 18 months, but may now have the virus instead. We won't fully know until tomorrow, but could you please pray that if it is Chickenpox that it comes and goes with no problems. I'm a little concerned, but know that God will take care of our little guy, and us as parents.

Phew!

Oh, good news, I only got one page last night at about 9:00, so got to sleep all night, woo hoo!
Love the blog, way to go Joanne!!

Needing a blog tutorial

OK...I'm having difficulty figuring out how to leave comments on existing postings. Can anyone help?

Liz, you and your family are in our prayers. If there is anything we can do please let us know.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
The Chancys

PS...this blog looks awesome...just don't know how to use it yet. Good work to all involved for setting it up.

Seizures

Hey Everyone,

Just want to let everyone know that my seizures started acting up again yesterday. I would like prayers for peace, knowing that I'm in God's hands even when I am concerned about the unknown. Also for rest because that will go a long way in helping to eliminate my seizures. Thanks for the prayers and support.

Prayer - Our Father

Sermon Review: The most powerful Bible studies are always those that focus on truly understanding the nature and character of God. Nothing reveals more to us about who God really is than this passage in which Jesus teaches us how to pray. This model, we call the Lord’s Prayer contains everything we need to know about prayer. It seems we all recognize that nothing could be more important than knowing how to commune with our Creator, yet as each of us examines our own prayer life, we all feel that we might be missing something and certainly there’s room for improvement. Well, amazingly, in just 5 short verses Jesus taught us how to pray.

Ice Breaker
• Think about every TV or movie dad you’ve ever seen depicted on screen. Out of all of them, who was your favorite? Why?

Exploring the Text
Read Matthew 6:9
• What is the significance of Jesus using the word “Our” to begin this prayer?
• If we all have the same father, what does that make us?
• How would you describe your relationship with your sibling(s)?
• What person (or group of people) in this world is it difficult for you to love?
• What does the word “Father” mean to you?
• How would you describe your relationship with your earthly dad? Healthy? Strained? Non-existent? Perfect?
• Many people have had less than perfect relationships with their earthly dads. How can they overcome the baggage they may bring into this word and understand its true meaning when used to describe God?

Challenge
- Spend time this week reading through the famous story of The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). Pay special attention to the dad’s words and actions in verses 20-24. Then prayerfully thank Our Father in heaven for his limitless love and forgiveness.

Is Anything too hard for the Lord?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Genesis 18:14.
A little boy was trying to roll a rock. His father was watching from a distance. The boy was heaving and sighing. But he couldn’t turn the stone over. His dad with a smile said, “Son, are you using all of your strength?” The boy said, “Yes, Daddy, I’m using all my strength.” And the father said, “No, you’re not because you haven’t asked me to help you. My strength is your strength.” Sometimes we wrestle with problems and say, “I don’t know what to do.” Our Father's strength is ours.Run into His. He is standing nearby only. There is no problem too big for Jesus to solve. Do you believe that? Your problem is His project! Is there a problem too big for you to solve? Give it to God! He can and will handle it!
